This year’s 26th edition of the annual Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show (SCIBS) will officially open its doors on Thursday, May 22. The event will showcase the best in boating, marine and lifestyle, catering to everyone from boaties on a budget to big dreamers, big spenders and families looking for a fun-filled day out.
As always, a stellar entertainment line-up and child-friendly activities will form part of the Show program, along with Women on Water activities, TV star-spotting, cooking presentations, roving entertainment and more.
Mulpha Sanctuary Cove head of events Johan Hasser said the free Show Guide was the best port of call for visitors looking to get the most out of their day.
“There is so much to see and do at this year’s Boat Show, it’s best to plan your day so you can make the most of your time,” said Mr Hasser.
“With more than 300 exhibitors on display and a great entertainment line up with different shows, demonstrations and seminars running throughout the day, this year’s Show is full of must-see attractions.”
Delivered free to more than 200,000 Gold Coast and Brisbane letterboxes, the complimentary Show Guide will also be available to visitors upon entry to the Show and has all the essential information for visitors including the top 10 things to see and do.
Just a snippet of what’s on over the four days, the Boat Show top 10 includes:
1. Meet the exhibitors and discover the wide range of products on offer, including marine technology, trailer boats, jet skis and of course the glamorous boats on the marina.
2. Visit Club Marine’s resident Chef Bart Beek who will be putting on a culinary show on the Boardwalk as he cooks up his delicious recipes.
3. Experience the luxury of Maserati and head down to the EuroMarque Maserati Brisbane display where the newest addition to the family – the Maserati Ghibli will be showcased.
4. See the stars in action on the Channel 7 Stage with Creek to Coast’s Sally Jenyns and Dean Miller cooking up a storm twice daily from Thursday to Sunday, and local My Kitchen Rules favourites Paul Bullpit and Blair Tonkin making guest appearances on Saturday and Sunday.
5. Soak up the atmosphere in The Marine Village which has an array of cafes and restaurants to choose from. Relax with a coffee, a long lunch or a decadent dinner with friends.
6. Brush up on your seafood preparation and handling skills with 7 News Weather, Beach, Boating and Fishing expert Paul Burt who will be hosting demonstrations Friday to Sunday. You can also put yourself in the draw to win The Ultimate Fishing experience with Paul on board his very own offshore sports fishing vessel while you’re there.
7. Meet rowing world record holder Andrew Abrahams who is returning to SCIBS to share stories about his recent journey on the 5000 kilometre Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, appearing daily on the Channel 7 Stage.
8. Let the little ones explore the Kids Zone – with an interactive jumping castle, rock climbing wall, face painting, Hot Shots Tennis program and Gold Coast Suns activities, they will be entertained for hours.
9. Visit ‘The Deck’ in The Docks precinct and be entertained by Master Magician Matt Hollywood and roving entertainers. Enjoy food and wine tasting and do some star spotting while you’re there.
10. The Queensland Water Police is always a hit with the kids and the adults, so head down to the marina and check out the range of operational vessels on display including the Tactical Response Boat, jet skis and the “Brett T Handran” 22 metre catamaran. Jump on board, speak with the officers and get a taste of what life as part of the Water Police is like.

The 2014 Boat Show will showcase a wide variety of international boating brands, products and technologies on display alongside the superb backdrop of the award-winning Sanctuary Cove marina and The Marine Village.
Tickets are on sale now online and through Ticketmaster. Adult day passes start at $20, with concession passes available for seniors and students. Children under 18 are free.
In 2014, SCIBS has teamed up with Translink to provide free train travel for all pre-paid ticket holders for travel to and from the show between May 22 and 25.
Visitors to SCIBS are entitled to free train travel on all regular Queensland Rail City Network trains when they display a pre-purchased ticket to the event, along with accessing the free ‘Park ‘n’ Ride’ services from Helensvale.
SCIBS is a key event on the national and international marine industry calendar and has injected millions of dollars into the Gold Coast economy over the past 25 years with last year’s show generating more than $148 million.
