Following the delivery of Truly Classic sailing yacht VIJONARA, Pendennis has announced the signing of a second custom Hoek Truly Classic 128′ sailing yacht and the fourth new signing so far in the series.
The concept behind the Truly Classic series allows clients to select an existing hull of proven seaworthiness with 1930s features with the latest technology. The semi-custom build can then be further customised with a bespoke interior, layout, draft and sailplan.
Design features include a flush deck with an aft cockpit, a low deckhouse and sweeping sheer. Key-hole-shaped cockpits characterise the Truly Classics series, which further benefits from efficient space utilisation inside as well as fingertip control and impressive balance.
Originally conceived in partnership with the late Michael Peacock, former captain of the British Admiral’s Cup team, the first hull was launched in 1994 and went on to win the Spirit of Tradition class at Antigua Sailing Week three years in a row, securing her desirability amongst luxury yacht owners.
“We are proud to be involved in this project for a repeat client who previously owned a smaller yacht in the truly classic range,” Andre Hoek commented on the signing. “The great experience working with Pendennis on S/Y VIJONARA has definitely had an influence in the decision to build again with them. Our office will be responsible for the naval architecture and interior design work and this will be the 37th yacht in the ever expanding truly classic range.”
The Pendennis shipyard is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2018 and the latest signing represents the 30th new build to come out of the Cornwall shipyard in the UK.
“We are extremely pleased to be partnering again with the Hoek Design team and MCM as the owner’s representative,” Mike Carr, Managing Director at Pendennis said. “Pendennis has continually invested in both its facilities and skills base over the last 30 years, enabling the company to grow into a global contender. Signing such a prestigious contract in this, our milestone year is a true testament to that. We are very proud to welcome this project into the Pendennis superyacht fleet.”
