Positioned in a magnificent seaside resort only five miles from Cardiff city centre, Penarth Marina, part of the Quay Marinas group, has retained its 5 Gold Anchor rating, having recently been assessed by The Yacht Harbour Association (TYHA). This high rating reflects the commitment of their staff under the experienced management of Stuart Jones. The team is undoubtedly enthusiastic about their work and the customers are appreciative of their attitude as conveyed by their survey responses.
Stuart commented: “All the staff at the marina are really pleased that the standard of service we provide has been recognised. We pride ourselves on providing a safe haven and fine facilities for our customers and to have our trade association confirm this is great news. The bar has been raised with the tightening of the Gold Anchor Scheme standards and we are very happy that we’ve achieved the highest level of award again.”
Penarth Marina offers an excellent standard of facilities, including the impressive new Pier 64 restaurant, frequented by many locals as well as boaters. With 340 fully serviced berths, all to a very high standard, they also have an excellent environmental policy, having undergone a rigorous Green Blue audit. The assessor was also impressed with the lounge where berth holders can watch TV and buy snacks from the vending machine.
Cardiff Bay offers a relatively calm stretch of fun sailing and power-boating water and with several interesting destinations, such as Mermaid Quay with restaurants, Roald Dahl Plass and the historic graving docks. With the bustling city of Cardiff nearby, this is an excellent location to visit the surrounding areas in South Glamorgan.
Gareth Turnbull, the TYHA assessor said: “Penarth Marina is reassuringly well managed and staffed with an apparent competence in the marina team. The marina is representative of an excellent facility and I would be happy to berth my boat there”.
The second marina in the Quays Marina group to receive 5 Gold Anchors is Portishead Quay Marinas. Situated on the Bristol Channel near the mouth of the river Avon, Portishead Quays Marina offers its boaters a variety of interesting cruising grounds to explore including Cardiff Bay, the North Cornish and Devon coasts.
The marina manager, Keith Berry and his team are fun and enthusiastic which makes using the facilities a real pleasure and allows the customer time to concentrate on planning their passage to destinations such as Lundy Island, Ilfracombe or the picturesque harbour of Porlock Weir.
Keith says of his award, “We are delighted that Portishead Quays Marina has been awarded 5 Gold Anchors in recognition of its ongoing commitment to provide first class facilities and excellent service to our customers. “
Portishead Quays Marina forms the centre piece of the prestigious Port Marine development, it is a modern and exciting marina with excellent customer focused standards. They currently offer 250 fully serviced berths and 24 hour staffing, 365 days a year. One of their many ‘Quay plus’ benefits is great berth holder communication by way of the Equay, a monthly newsletter which is full of useful information delivered in a light hearted, entertaining manner.
Gareth Turnbull, who assessed Portishead Quays Marina commented, “This is a refreshingly nice and professional marina which would make an enjoyable weekend destination for whether sailing or onshore.”
