For the first time, the Superyacht Cup Palma will be marked by the partnership with the ultimate yachting and superyacht charter destination, New Zealand. As ‘Destination Partner’, the 100% PURE New Zealand team’s presence at the prestigious long-running regatta will aim to additionally promote New Zealand as the superyacht hub of the South Pacific and increase awareness of New Zealand as a world class cruising and luxury yacht charter destination.
A record number of 57 superyachts visited New Zealand from April 2014 to March 2015 – the highest number of superyacht visits since the America’s Cup in 2000, when approximately 90 to 100 superyachts visited Auckland’s shore.
Beyond Auckland lies 14,000km of fabulous coastline set against a backdrop of fantastic and diverse landscapes within short cruising distances, with the luxury experiences to match.
Intelligently-crafted legislation, like the 24-month Temporary Import Entry for yachts, enables yachts to undergo refit, owner cruises, as well as charters and reap the benefits of GST-free refits and goods purchases during their visit of up to two years.
Moreover, the new and flexible rules now allow visiting superyachts to charter in New Zealand waters, offering a unique opportunity to those who wish to have a brief taste of what New Zealand has to offer as well as an amazing business opportunity for luxury charter yachts and management companies seeking a competitive edge outside the traditional, saturated cruising regions.
New Zealand technology will be well-represented in this year’s regatta. Constructed by the New Zealand-based shipyard Alloy Yachts, superyacht Blue Too will be present at the event, along with the newly launched mega yacht Perseus^3, participating for the first time. Perseus^3 boasts the biggest single sail ever made, at 2,602 square meters using Stratis – a sail fibre invented by Doyle Sails New Zealand.
100% Pure New Zealand is brought to the Superyacht Cup Palma by Tourism New Zealand, NZ Marine, New Zealand Trade and Enterprise and the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
