Vicem Yachts new Vicem 78 Cruiser will have its “US premiere” at Fort Lauderdale Boat Show from the 28th until the 31st of October 2010. The 78 Cruiser is the latest in Vicem’s celebrated series of Classic, Flybridge and Cruiser motor yachts ranging from 50 – 100 feet: the Vintage Line which had its world premier at the Cannes and Monaco Boat shows earlier this year.
The new 78 Cruiser epitomizes the three hallmarks of every Vicem yacht: exuding a classic look of timeless design, exemplifying the Vicem ideals for unmatched craftsmanship with a commitment to total customization, and the cold-molded method of construction. But this classic 25,15m Vicem has undergone a subtle yet sophisticated makeover with a number of new refinements, thanks to Vicem’s 15-person in-house design team. The 2010 78 Cruiser is a classic…with a contemporary twist.
“The idea was that of developing a mighty and powerful looking yacht. We also chose different colors from the usual ones: a “double crème shade” of unrivalled prestige. For the interiors we have chosen a lighter mahogany to obtain a new definition of a “glistening” yacht. A yacht whose standard details are the best on the market: for example, Bisazza mosaics in toilets, Grohe faucets, a Spa Pool for 4 persons on the flying bridge, and fin stabilizers on the hull. The standard version comes with 4 cabins, a very “European” kitchen, king size beds in the full-beam master cabin and in the Vip cabin. Two further guest cabins propose a queen-size and a twin-bed double solution. The crew area is another sign of distinctiveness: two cabins (one single and one double) with private toilets, double access and laundry”, said Alberto Perrone Da Zara, Vicem CEO, introducing the vessel.
Many of the changes made aboard the 78 Cruiser appeal to more European tastes. The trademark interior high-gloss surfaces have given way to the understated beauty of satin-finish mahogany, accentuated by neutral-colored fabrics and the discerning use of leather appointments. Guests will also appreciate having more natural light stream into social areas through markedly larger windows. Larger swim platform and sun pad areas adorn the aft deck and flybridge, respectively. The flybridge offers wide areas typical of significantly bigger yacht with a large Spa Pool for 4 people. Amidships, a large square table with three chairs and a U-Settee can host up to eight to ten guests. Port-side, an L-shaped mini-bar with two seats, ice maker, refrigerator and grill will let the owner fully enjoy parties on board. When mooring, the bridge also offers an essential helm station with a 360° degree view. Two additional seats can be added to port. A hard-top for the flybridge helm station is standard, as well as a jet-sky and rubber dinghy area.
The Vicem 78 contemporary twists are complemented by an updated exterior, which projects the cleaner lines that were widely well-received with the introduction of the top Vintage Line range Vicem 92’. On the other hand, the lines of the new 78 show all its cruising character: a very high bow with a large and low cockpit to face rough seas for a pleasant and comfortable cruise in any weather. All on-board detail has been handcrafted to the highest standard and expertise: mahogany toe-rail and chromed brass or stainless steel hardware are just an example.
Power arrangements are 2 x MAN V8 900HP Common Rail engines, which allow the 78 Cruiser to reach cruising and maximum speeds of 14 and 17 knots, respectively, with a range of 1,050 nm at 10 knots. The fuel tanks have a capacity of 2,168 gal. 8,206 lt. while the water and holding tanks are 430 gal. – 1,628 lt. and 395 gal. – 1,496 lt., respectively.
The 78 Cruiser can welcome aboard twelve guests and three crew. Sleeping accommodations include a full-beam master cabin amidships, one VIP stateroom forward with a king-size bed, and two guest staterooms (one double and one twin) – all with en-suite bathrooms (with a separate shower box). The very large master cabin offers all the comfort you need on board with an island king berth, a settee for two persons, an LCD screen and a vanity area with lift up mirror and lateral drawers. All cabins as well as the saloon are provided with LCD TVs.
Light and a great sense of spaciousness are assured by large windows in the saloon and in the dining area, providing visibility as if you were outdoors. A wide-body saloon welcomes you inside, two lounge chairs with an ottoman and two large sofas can host up to 7 guests. The dining room is at the centre of the main deck with a specially designed dinette table for 8 guests, and to starboard stairs give access to the lower deck. The wheelhouse is equipped with all the latest technology on the market. Autopilot, GPS and radar come standard. A day-head is located behind the wheelhouse and four more seats can be added to port, just before the large galley. The kitchen is provided with all possible appliances for a prestigious yacht: a cooktop with 4 burners, microwave, oven, refrigerator, freezer, ice maker, bottle cooler for 12 bottles, etc. A Bose music system, Bose speakers and air conditioning are located in every area of the yacht.
The cold molded method
The building technique used to create the new 78 is the same used for all Vicem Vintage Line (classic/flybridge 52’ to 75’ – cruiser 78 & 92): the cold molded process. A millenary, unique construction technique which embodies all the construction methods of the Turkish historical marine tradition; a modern procedure different from traditional boat building. Based on engineered wood construction, cold-molding uses laminated mahogany (coming from managed forests) and a specific formulated epoxy resin to create the hull, decks and principal superstructures. This results in a stronger and quieter vessel with a smoother ride, with natural insulation from humidity and noise.
