A Perfect blend of technology and style. Vicem Yachts, Turkish builders of luxury classic motor yachts and mega-yachts, opens 2011 with the new worldwide debut of its third line of yachts: the Vanguard Line.
Composed of the Vanguard 45 and the Vanguard 33, the new Vanguard Line is a perfect blend of timeless elegance, performing naval architecture and state of the art production technology. The new line of yachts boasts Vicem in-house design department styling for the exterior and the interior, while the hull and naval architecture were developed by legendary yacht designer Michael Peters.
An aggressive yet clean lined design that combines wood elements that typify the classic Vicem style (the mahogany windscreen is just an example) with new color palettes of grey, silver and blue. An extraordinarily daring design but intimately tied to incomparably high quality hull construction, thanks to the use of infused epoxy resins. SP Systems and Hi Modulus – B3 Smart Pac were chosen by Vicem Yachts to develop a production package using six different kinds of cores for each hull.
For lovers of ease and comfort, Vicem offers twin Volvo IPS 600 engines with 34 knots of top speed. This option permits easier docking, lower fuel consumption and 30% lower emissions compared to traditional propulsion. In alternative, thrilling performance is the trademark of the Vanguard Line with twin 800HP MAN R6 engines option, coupled with legendary ASD – Arneson Surface Drive transmissions, the Vanguards are capable of over 50 knots. This is also thanks to a 20° degrees dead-rise for increased seaworthiness – no longer will a choppy sea keep an owner from enjoying a swim.
The Vanguard Line also blends style and speed with very livable interiors: two cabins with twin berths, one forward and the other amidships, a comfortable galley and head with separate shower.
The highly defined potential client target is as follows: single males or dinkys (double incomes no kids yet) in their forties, highly attracted to everything that is fashionable and contemporary, who set a high value on elegance and design. They may also be fans of power-boating that have decided to buy their first yacht and, due to the high manoeuvrability, might be without a lot of experience at sea. They may also be mature boat owners who have chosen a Vanguard for their super yacht or as a second or third yacht in their collection.
Vicem Yachts CEO Alberto Perrone Da Zara presents yet another new development for the Turkish yard: “I’ve worked with ‘open class’ boats for almost all of my career. After a fantastic experience in the United States with two leaders in this market, I couldn’t wait too long to bring Vicem into this segment.” “We studied very carefully all competitors worldwide and discovered a few gaps that the yard could fill: improved seaworthiness, a more enjoyable boat in heavier seas, better living space below-decks, zero compromise construction quality and a higher cost factor, sometimes very much higher.
Vicem’s strengths are in their highly specialized workforce, their obsession with wood and stainless steel craftsmanship that comes close to perfection, the engineering resources necessary for the development of ever faster hulls with good dead-rise geometries and increased seaworthiness.
All this in a limited production run – the Yard’s DNA is custom or semi-custom production – but with a quality to price ratio that can be found only in Turkey.”
Perrone Da Zara adds: “From the quality point of view Vicem has decided to invest heavily.
Together with Michael Peters we have decided to build hulls that no one else has: infused epoxy, just like the hulls used in the America’s Cup. We turned to SP System and Hi Modulus – B3 Smart Pac for a production package that uses six different core types for each hull. Certainly, this is a very challenging brief for our production and purchase departments, but quality here at Vicem has never been compromised.” And in conclusion: “Our in-house design department is responsible for exterior and interior styling. The use of colors, systems like the stern mounted automatic swim platform that closes and becomes an integral part of the hull, the sun bathing area at the bow with a bimini-top, living space aboard for up to ten guests and two large cabins with king size beds, the attention to the cockpit: I think these are all winning factors destined for a precise and defined client target.”

About Vicem – The Yachts for Yachtsmen
Since the company was founded in 1991, Vicem Yachts has been always focusing on three core values: total customization, impeccable craftsmanship and timeless design. Vicem Vintage Line (Classic and Fly Bridge models, from 52’ to 75’; the Cruiser 78′ and 92′) is built using the cold-molded process. A millenary, unique construction technique which embodies all the construction methods of the Turkish historical marine tradition; a modern procedure different from traditional boat building. Based on engineered wood construction, cold-molding uses laminated mahogany (coming from managed forests) and a specific formulated epoxy resin to create the hull, decks and principal superstructures. This results in a stronger and quieter vessel with a smoother ride, with natural insulation from humidity and noise. In 2009, Vicem Yachts extended its production to the mega-yacht segment, introducing the new Vulcan Line with the 46m & 35m Tri-deck and the 32m RPH. All three are currently under construction (all under construction and to be delivered in 2011). Vanguard 45 and 33 compose it’s all new third line of open yachts, a perfect blend of timeless elegance, performing naval architecture and state of the art production technology. Vicem Yachts is headquartered in Istanbul, and employs almost 400 staff in three manufacturing facilities – one in Tuzla-Istanbul and two in Antalya – covering a total productive surface of 550.000 sq ft (50.000 sq mt). Worldwide operations are lead through an international brokers network coordinated by Vicem of America (Fort Lauderdale FL), Vicem of Europe (La Spezia Italy), and Vicem of Asia Pacific (Australia).
