Walcon Marine, the world-renowned designer and builder of luxury yacht marinas and yacht harbours, has entered the winter of 2014 with a strong order book. One of the company’s significant projects represents the continuation of the project at the Eden Island, nestled in the breath-taking Indian Ocean yacht charter location – the Seychelles.
The current phase at this world-class resort is Basin 5. The design is an unusual shape with the basin in the form of a circle. Walcon is installing pontoons around the rim and then adding twin walkways with an extra 45 berths projecting out into the centre of the basin. The System 2000 pontoons are shipping now and will be installed by local contractor Vijay Construction. The basin will be open for business in early 2015. Walcon has been working with the Eden Island Development Corporation and Vijay Construction for over ten years and has taken great pleasure is seeing the resort grow dramatically over that time.
Walcon has also won a contract on the island of Jersey which is due to get underway shortly. This is a linear-style berthing facility that will provide docking facilities for a local ferry and the lifeboat as well as for visiting leisure craft of all sizes. The location will be Albert Pier in the island’s capital of Saint Helier. The specification for the pontoons is upgraded System 21, which incorporates additional steelwork to take on higher loads. Hardwood decking will be used on all horizontal surfaces and GRP grating on the bridge and other sloping areas for enhanced non-slip properties. Additional features include a 50-metre access bridge and a raised platform for easy access to the ferry. Walcon will also be supplying the wall guide columns. Geo Marine is the main contractor.
Elsewhere, Walcon is seeing improved business flows from both the UK and mainland Europe, with demand for both refurbishment and new build contracts.
