Nara Inlet is probably the best anchorage on Hook Island where you will notice the cockatoos and quite high the mountainous terrain. There are also numerous other lovely coral reef rimmed bays, particularly on the north side of Hook Island. One such bay is Butterfly Bay where fresh water pools attract butterflies.

A must see yacht charter stopover is Whitehaven Beach on Whitsunday Island, the largest Island in the Whitsundays. Whitehaven beach is over 3 miles of perfect fine, whiter than white, sand (bring your sunglasses) fringed by native tropical woods. Whitehaven beach is known to be one of the most beautiful beaches in the entire world, and believe me this is not without good cause.
In the heart of the Whitsundays is Hamilton Island, a yacht charter destination more on the ‘civilized’ side. Hamilton has a great marina, a jet airport, a couple of high-rise buildings (which fit in very well with the landscape) and a bustling scene of restaurants and bars. Hamilton Island is the largest development on the Islands of Australia and you can fly in and pick up a yacht charter directly from this base.
The Whitsunday yacht charter season runs all year, although the Whitsunday’s are prone to cyclones and tropical rain during summer, from November to March. These are also the warmest and most humid months. The climate is warm all year, with the temperature rarely falling below the twenties in winter. The yacht was originally constructed by Ray Kemp in Tasmania in 1979 however Princess Iluka has undergone an extensive refit and rebuild over a period of three years. She can accommodate up to 8 guests in 3 double and 1 twin cabin.
The timber used in PRINCESS ILUKA’s construction included Tasmanian oak and Huon pine. The timbers were logged and milled around 1964 in the Gordon River region in the south west wilderness of Tasmania. This area is renowned for its unique huon pines, which was the most sought after boat building material, mainly due to its resistance to rot and borers. The huon pine used for Iluka’s hull was over 750 years old and once harvested, was left to cure for two years before building could commence. The timber which forms the keel is one continuous piece of spotted gum which took three weeks to extract from the forest. A construction of this type would not be possible today as the timber is now a protected.
Princess Iluka has a classic clipper bow which forms the foundation of the vessel. PRINCESS ILUKA’s refit was undertaken in Australia and took 3 years to complete and her hull timbers were stripped bare to make way for her transformation. The superstructure was remodelled and rebuilt and her hull was lengthened to include a new transom. The interior transformation included the latest technology in engineering, electrical and plumbing systems, as well as state of the art electronics. The super yachts owners have been sympathetic to the yacht’s heritage and history and there is a distinctly Australian flavour throughout the interior.
Motor yacht PRINCESS ILUKA can accommodate up to a total of 8 guests in 3 double and 1 twin cabin. The full width master cabin is located on the main deck and features a king size bed, sitting area, desk, wardrobe and bathroom with bath and stall shower. Luxury charter vessel M.V. Joe Joe is appointed to the highest marine standards possible. For a private crewed charter, Joe Joe offers accommodation for 4 people in 2 cabins. Both cabins as well as the salon are equipped with colour flat screen TV/DVD and Video. The Master Cabin is equipped with a large queen sized berth and ensuite head with hot & cold fresh water shower, full length wardrobes and a deckhead clearance of over 6ft. The forward twin cabin also has a head with adjoining wash facilities and a full length wardrobe. Crew cabins are located forward with private facilities.

Marcrista’s accommodation offers our guests air conditioned internal comfort. The European design has incorporated tropical rated ventilation for this vessel. The forward master cabin is the most luxurious berth and features thermostatically controlled airconditioning, two opening deck hatches and two rain proof dorade vents, two hull port holes, large double berth 2070 mm (81 ”) long 1350 (53”) wide at shoulders, luxuriously padded curved 2 seater lounge, TV and video, Bose hi fi system, large teak framed mirror. This cabin has an ensuite head with full size dometic toilet and basin, large mirror with overhead lighting, one opening deck hatch with privacy blind and two rain proof dorade vents. The Port berth offers a large double bed 1900 mm (75”) long and 1400 mm (55”) wide at shoulders, full length wall mirror, airconditioned with adjustable ducts, opening port hole hull port hole and a separate reading light. There is another double berth located aft which is normally reserved for crew however can be used for accommodation on larger charters.
