At the official opening of the White Bay 6 Marine Park, NSW Minister for Ports Duncan Gay today revealed new boating facilities, in the company of representatives from Baileys Marine, NSW Roads and Maritime Services and Sydney Ports.
“NSW has long been in need of upgrades to its maritime facilities to service both the maritime industry and our important recreational boating community,” said Mr Gay.
“The combined White Bay 6 Marine Park and Baileys Marine Fuel Facility provide an invaluable service to the Sydney Harbour maritime community including commercial fishing vessels, commercial vessels, charter vessels and recreational vessels.
“I’m very pleased to be here today to unveil:
• A new 75 tonne capacity travel boat lift to launch and retrieve vessels from the water
• Three newly constructed temporary moorings
• A new wharf
• Asteel pontoon
• And a roll-on/roll-off ramp with a laydown area for temporary storage of goods for water transport.
“These great new facilities are already servicing our busy Sydney Harbour maritime industry. They have been constructed in stages. The first stage – the Baileys Marine fuel and pump out facility – commenced operations in April 2011. The marine refuelling facility consists of a tank farm capable of storing diesel and unleaded fuel and includes eight card-operated refuelling dispensers. This provides the only centrally located fuel facility in Sydney Harbour in the 10 kilometre distance by water between Cabarita and Rushcutters Bay.”
Mr Gay said that importantly, the facility reduced the need for boaters to carry excess fuel containers on-board their vessels or to refuel while in the vessel. “The pump out facility provides a card operated pump to remove grey water, sullage and oily water from vessels,” he said. “These refuelling and pumpout facilities have already provided considerable benefit to both recreational and commercial vessels alike.”
Also included as part of the first stage of the development was a small office and amenities block which were refurbished and are now in use. Baileys Marine has a good reputation for developing state-of-the-art marine fuel service facilities and worked in conjunction with RMS, BIA, Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority and local residents to ensure ecological standards have been adhered to.
