Auckland, New Zealand – The City of Sails was transformed into the City of Lights for two nights May 21st and 22nd by fantastic laser shows in Auckland’s Viaduct in celebration of the completion and launch of yacht Big Fish.
The events included two evening parties complete with fashion shows, dancers, traditional Maori Haka performances and live music, and a day-long party for shipyard workers and their families.
The launch celebrations culminate more than three years of design, engineering and construction of 45 meter Big Fish, the first motor superyacht built in New Zealand. It also represents the largest yacht project yet at New Zealand’s McMullen & Wing Shipyard, and the premier launch from Aquos Yachts, which is taking Big Fish and a series of planned sisterships to the global yacht and charter markets. A second vessel, 50 meter Star Fish, has been contracted and started construction at McMullen & Wing.
Superyacht Big Fish is scheduled to depart Auckland after final finishing in mid-June to begin her maiden voyage – the first-ever Polar Circumnavigation – which will begin in Tahiti and continue to the Antarctic, then to the Amazon, then to the Caribbean, Northern Europe, and conclude with the first luxury yacht transit of the fabled Northeast Passage over the top of Russia. The yacht, which will be available for charter throughout its route over the top and bottom of the world, has already booked several charters in Tahiti.
Yacht Big Fish will take a detour from its circumnavigation in October and November to make a one-month stop in Fort Lauderdale during the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show to showcase the quality of its design and construction and its innovative features, which include the first use of granite decking, its extraordinary 25-foot-high HD TV screen, and folding stern “beach” bulwarks.
