As everybody knows, Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta is held from Thursday, April 19 to Tuesday, April 24, 2012. Following on from the Classic Yacht Regatta, on Saturday, April 28 an amazing new event will be held – the Yachting World Round Antigua Race. Previously a part of Antigua Sailing Week, the race has been re-introduced as an optional race open to all yachts.
Classes will include maxi, racing, cruising, multihull, bareboat and classics among others, so yachts of all types are expected to participate including many classics as well as those that will go on to participate in Antigua Sailing Week.
Yachting World is once again proud to sponsor the Round Antigua Race and will award the beautiful and much-coveted Yachting World Trophy to the elapsed time winner. The record is currently held by the overall winner of Antigua Sailing Week 2011, the Farr-designed 115ft charter yacht Sojana, which completed the race in 4 hours, 37 minutes and 43 seconds in 2009.
The prize giving for the Yachting World Round Antigua Race will take place at the Antigua Sailing Week Welcome Party in historic Nelson´s Dockyard at 7 pm on Saturday, April 28.
As the first Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta was held 25 years ago when it was decided that classic yachts were more suited to different courses than those raced in Antigua Sailing Week, it is fitting that for the 25th annual event, classic yachts will be back on the water with yachts that will participate in Antigua Sailing Week.
